Job Description: Director of IT (Engineering) Operations
Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, Generation Technologies Corporation (GTC) is a leading software design and development company focusing on distributed media and metadata solutions for large TV networks, media organizations and government agencies. We are a team of highly focused, specialized engineers and developers who are flexible, knowledgeable, and inquisitive leaders in our field. Our up-to-date Microsoft centric operation runs primarily on HP and Cisco hardware with deployed Dell servers. The Director of Engineering Operations is a new position and will report directly to the President with broad responsibilities as outlined below.
Responsibilities
- Manage Operations Team including hiring, scheduling, supervising and performing reviews
- Monitor and maintain datacenter in Overland Park, Kansas
- Monitor and manage 230+ fully managed appliances, deployed domestically
- Manage and support 24x7 Network Operations Center
- Manage phone support staff
- Serve as primary liaison for datacenter hardware/software vendors, service providers and contractors
- Steward operating and capital budgets
- Manage datacenter expansion to collocation facilities
- Interact with development and testing team to resolve field issues
General Requirements
- Cool and calm demeanor under fire with an instinct to triage
- Ability to carry the load and know when to share the load
- Ability to achieve a balance between perfection and delivering results
- Strong written and verbal presentation skills with justification of concepts and ideas and consideration for budgets
- Ability and drive to improve/maintain documentation on operational procedures
- Strong project management skills and follow through
- Ability to plan your vacation without cell service, knowing that your smooth running operation will be fine until you return home
- Experience with cloud hosting services a plus
Education and Experience Requirements
- BS in Engineering
- 10+ years with increasing responsibility in computer/engineering operations
- 4+ years experience in management and supervision
Technical Requirements
- Expert in hands-on configuration and management of Cisco switches, firewalls and routers; HP blades and storage systems; and VMware
- Knowledgeable on the challenges and issues around: security, antivirus, internet based WANs, connectivity (DS-3 to OC-12), high latency networks, inter and intra datacenter load balancing (IIS and file store), datacenter infrastructure MTBF/MTTR, cloud services and remote server management tools
- Skilled in deployment and support of legacy Win2003 R2 and SQL2005 and current Win2008 R2 and SQL 2008
- Knowledgeable on Windows Exchange
- Proficient in the use of documentation tools (Word, Visio, Excel, other) for intra office communications
- Skilled with tools such as Ghost, Perfmon, etc.
- Familiar with 208V three phase power, UPS systems and backup generators, datacenter cooling systems
