NEW YORK and OVERLAND PARK, KS – November 10, 2008 – Generation Technologies Corporation (GTC) has upgraded NIM™, its long deployed affiliate network news management system, to support bidirectional digital video file exchange between CBS Newspath’s newsroom, regional offices, and 230 network affiliates.
Now with the click of a mouse, affiliate producers select from CBS’s daily inventory of over 400 news stories for inclusion in their local newscasts. This new technology replaces the traditional process of real-time dubbing with a nearly spontaneous IP transfer. Affiliates not only gain production speed, but also experience substantially improved video quality.
This enhancement also provides producers at all 230 stations the ability to send locally shot video clips to the CBS Newspath network via the internet with an equally simple click of a mouse. The producer has 100% confidence that the video and its metadata, including copyright and embargos, stay tightly coupled all the way through the process. Phasing out satellite “backhaul” yields immediate savings for both the affiliate and the network.
Noteworthy early adopters of bidirectional file video exchange are CBS newsrooms using Final Cut Pro®, EDIUS®, Precis, and NEXIO™ editing systems. CBS Newspath operates the world’s largest satellite newsgathering organization and provides 24-hour news services to 230 CBS affiliates and to broadcasters around the world.
